In May 2013, Destinyman.com featured an interview with Inside Story Director Rolie Nikiwe. When asked about the awards the movie has won, Rolie responded “It's an affirmation that we have made a working project, one that an audience might make an effort to see. One such moment was when the LA Weekly called Inside Story “a resounding success”. It definitely was a proud moment for me.”
The idea for an educational film about the science of HIV came as Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership (DCGEP) producers asked educators for topic ideas for school kids and community members. Soliciting relevant subject ideas from teachers and school administrators in Sub Saharan Africa who are most familiar with the needs of their students and community is one way DCGEP makes sure their films connect with audiences.
Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership (DCGEP) partners with Curious Pictures and Masters & Savant to create Inside Story.
Curious Pictures a premier production company has a reputation for being one of South Africa's most innovative and exciting production houses – home to both independent filmaking and filmmakers. Through social dramas like “Intersextions, “The Lab” and “Heatlines”, Curious Pictures tackles a wide variety of relevant social issues through the innovative use of solid story telling.
For the past fourteen years the Discovery Global Education Partnership (www.thepoweroftv.org) has asked educators in under resourced schools around the world what subject topics for films would be most beneficial to their students and communities. Each year the topic of explaining how HIV actually works is a topic of importance, especially for educators working in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Thanks for visiting the INSIDE STORY website. We'll continue to post updates from behind the scenes and later screenings dates, details and the roll-out of the film.
INSIDE STORY will use the best of fiction and nonfiction storytelling to shatter misconceptions about the science of HIV. In the midst of a great story we'll witness the moment of infection - how HIV passes from one person to another and how ARVs work through stunning animation.
